Description
Space Launch System simulations. Coupled fluid-structure interaction supercomputer simulations of the Space Launch System (SLS) solid rocket motor with flexible inhibitors. The simulations show the instantaneous Mach number field (top), the instantaneous vorticity field (middle), and the instantaneous pressure field (bottom). The simulations combine computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) using a large-eddy simulation turbulence model. These simulations, produced with NASA's Pleiades supercomputer, were featured at the SC13 supercomputing conference in November 2013.
