Description
Aircraft fuel injection simulation. Supercomputer visualization of the liquid fuel (Jet-A) spray formed by the nine fuel injectors of a Lean Direction Injection (LDI) design intended to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The stochastic spray solver used in the simulation tracks several thousands of spray particles, each representing hundreds to thousands of actual spray droplets. This 9-point LDI simulation, a computational fluid dynamics model, was performed on NASA's Pleiades supercomputer using 576 Intel Xeon Westmere processors. This simulation was featured at the SC13 supercomputing conference in November 2013.
